Several Stanford students spearheaded the flagship program in 2012 in response to the clear unmet need for shelter. The 2013 Homeless Point in Time survey survey counted approximately 145 unhoused people living in Palo Alto; the 2015 survey counted over 2001. Given the increased need, the shelter will open again this winter from from January through April. We have engaged the community of Palo Alto in creating a mutually beneficial space to form friendships with unhoused people while offering them shelter and services. Our shelter places paramount importance on respect and helping our residents achieve their goals.
Meet the team of Stanford students and community members responsible for coordinating all aspects of shelter operations!
